1962 Lambretta Li125
Lambretta Li125
This 1962 Lambretta Li125 is one of the first series 3 models. Remarkably, it has sat in a barn in Perugia, Italy for at least 40 years and peeling back the layers of dirt, it looks like it has only ever covered 1053km or around 650 miles! It was supplied with some old paperwork and the equivalent of a tax disk as well as the confirmation of a matching number from the UK Lambretta club.
The scooter was imported directly from Italy for Fostering Classics in November 2020 and the restoration is now underway. Our detective work suggests that the scooter was used on roads or dirt tracks with a lot of clay, as it had clogged up many internal parts of the scooter, eventually causing the gearbox to overheat, which seized only allowing 1st and neutral gears! We believe this is why the scooter was retired from service.
The scooter will undergo a sympathetic restoration to bring it back to completely original condition. It left the factory in Iseo Light Green, but a previous owner has hand-painted in white and blue at some point. We will return it back to the original period colour.
Luckily, due to the popularity of these Lambretta’s and the longevity of their production, not only in Italy but later Spain and then India, there is a great aftermarket support network for them. Parts supply quality can be variable, so we will be very selective when purchasing spare parts to ensure the original Italian quality is maintained.
It is now fully registered in the UK as a historic vehicle and because of the year of manufacture, it has been supplied with the old registration style of three numbers and three letters. It is also MOT exempt. The old Italian number plate will also be supplied with the scooter to ensure its roots can be traced!
