Classic Car Restoration Technician

Fostering Classics Ltd is a classic car restoration and sales business formed five years ago. Following a successful period of growth, the company now looks to recruit an experienced classic car restoration technician to join its small team.

The ideal candidate will have a passion for classic vehicles and a proven experience of restoring them. The business addresses all aspects of the restoration process in-house, from mechanical, welding, fabrication, bodywork, electrical and trimming, so the candidate should be able to demonstrate skills ideally in all of these areas.

The individual’s enthusiasm, energy, and pace of delivery are extremely important for this role as their workmanship quality. They need to be well organised and methodical in their approach to ensure the projects are completed as quickly as possible to the exacting quality standards which are required for all our projects, whether they are our own vehicles or Customer owned.

The position is available immediately, and the salary package will depend upon the candidate’s skills and experience. The workshop premises are based in South Littleton, near Evesham.

 

Job Description

Job title: Classic Car Restoration Technician

Purpose of the role: To join the small team responsible for carrying out all aspects of classic car restoration 

How the role contributes to the wider business: The role is important to this small business to increase the project throughput demanded by our ever increasing Customer base.

Key Responsibilities

  • To carry out classic car restoration activities as required. 
  • To diagnose and rectify classic vehicle faults. 
  • To methodically disassemble, label, photograph and store vehicle parts and assemblies. 
  • To strip components and assess their condition and either restore or replace them. 
  • To produce concise parts and materials requirements lists to assist with the procurement process. 
  • To reassemble the restored assemblies or vehicles and debug or finesse to achieve the right quality. 

Skills

The candidate must be able to demonstrate experience of working on classic cars to a professional standard (i.e. not just hobby level). The skills required for classic car restoration are numerous and diverse, so it is expected that candidates may be more specialised in certain areas, such as welding or trim and less so in others. 

Must have:

  • Detailed knowledge of vehicle mechanical systems (engine, transmission, driveline, suspension and brakes).
  • Ability to diagnose, assess and repair or replace worn or fault components or assemblies.

Preferred:

  • Metalwork skills, corrosion rectification, hand fabrication, welding
  • Body preparation skills prior to painting
  • Paint rectification and detailing experience
  • Classic vehicle electrical system knowledge
  • Ability to trim vehicle interiors with high quality trim kits

    • Representative – able to meet and discuss the project with the Customer if required.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    A formal qualification is not mandatory, but relevant apprenticeships or NVQ qualifications would be beneficial.
