1972 Fiat 500L
This right-hand drive UK car was manufactured in 1972 and first registered in Edinburgh on 01/01/73. It has covered around 45,400 miles and comes with its original stamped service record, old MOTs and old invoices to support this mileage.
It has just completed a professional restoration at Fostering Classics to the highest standard. All aspects of the car have been addressed from the bodywork, engine, brakes, suspension, trim and electrical system.
The car is painted in its original Coral Rosso paint, which is more orange than red. Fiat has recently relaunched the new 500 in a very similar shade of orange! As it is the L or Lusso model, it has reclining front seats, bumper overriders and additional chrome trim. This car is fitted with the factory sunroof and an original Motorola radio.

Work completed on Fiat 500L
The car was fully stripped to assess its condition. A new front panel, inner wheel arch and front outer wings were fitted, along with a replacement bonnet. The lower drivers door skin was replaced along with the rear wheel arches. Only minor repairs were required to the floor pan, and the rest of the car was in extremely good condition.
The car was prepared in epoxy primer before receiving 5 coats of original Coral Rosso paint, which was then flattened and polished back to a high lustre. The under wheel arch areas are also painted in body colour.
The engine and gearbox were fully stripped and rebuilt with new pistons and cylinders, seals, gaskets and consumables. The internals of the gearbox were checked and found to be in perfect condition. A full cosmetic engine and engine bay restoration were completed. All control cables were renewed to ensure smooth operation.
New suspension components, such as dampers and bushes were fitted, along with steering arms and wheel bearings. The entire braking system was replaced, including the copper brakes pipes and cylinders.
Internal trim was in really good condition, so it was fully retained, apart from the carpet, which was replaced for a genuine moulded type.
Exterior trim was a little dull, so a new front bumper and headlamps were fitted, along with new light lenses and chrome number plate lamp. All window rubbers and trim inserts were renewed, along with new wipers. Black and white pressed number plates were fitted to complete the exterior.
The car was fitted with a new set of Pirelli Cinturato tyres and a new battery.
The car has undergone a full shakedown test and drives really well. As it is over 40 years old, it doesn’t need a formal MOT test, but we are happy to arrange one if required.
Working on this project brought immense joy, as it involved preserving the timeless legacy of the Fiat 500L for future generations. The captivating gallery of images beautifully captures every intricate detail of the extensive work undertaken, ensuring this iconic car’s heritage endures for many years to come.
