1973 Triumph Stag

Triumph Stag

Simon has always been a fan of the Triumph Stag, ever since being a rear seat passenger in one as a child. So it was only a matter of time before one arrived with us for restoration.

The car shown here is a Mark 1.5 from 1973. Which basically means Triumph used a mixture of Mark 1 and Mark 2 parts during a phased introduction.

It was fully restored to the highest possible standard. Every nut and bolt was stripped, cleaned or replaced and put back together at exactly the right torque. The inner sills and chassis required significant fabrication and the interior and hood were also renewed. The car was painted 2 shades brighter white than the original “Triumph 19 white” as the original colour can seem a bit yellow. Like MGs, Stags are well supported by the UK classic car suppliers, so finding the required parts is easy.

The difference between the purchased and complete car was dramatic. When we collected the car, driving at 55mph on the M40 motorway with worn steering and suspension was genuinely scary.
