1996 Land Rover Defender 110
1996 Land Rover Defender 110
This commercial vehicle was well used by its first company owner and the chassis, underbody, bodywork, mechanicals and interior trim were all in a poor state. As a commercial variant, there were no luxuries fitted at all, not even a radio!
Its new owner, our Customer bought the vehicle with a particular vision in mind. They wanted to create a luxurious vehicle, which retained the traditional Land Rover Defender looks and character.
This is a major project, which has involved the usual attention to corrosion of the chassis and body structure. The exterior panels were bruised and battered, typical for a Land Rover, so the doors were replaced and the remaining panels returned to their correct shape and were painted in original Alpine white.
We are fitting an uprated turbo, intercooler and tuning the engine to ensure maximum performance from the 300Tdi engine. The suspension and mechanical components were renewed to bring back to a new condition.
Most of the work, however, happened inside the cabin. It was completely stripped and various grades of sound and thermal insulation are being fitted to every part of the interior. Electric windows, central locking, heated seats, touch screen sat-nav audio system, reverse camera, new instrument gauges and a remote alarm immobiliser have been fitted, along with a bespoke wiring harness to control all these features and functions.
The internal roof has been fitted with a black alcantara headlining and the cab floor fitted with plush wool cut pile carpets. The three front seats have been trimmed in soft leather to give a wonderful luxury finish to the cab.
This has been an enjoyable project for us and hopefully shows that we can update classic vehicles to add useful updates, features and luxury.
