1933 Willys 77 Coupe
1933 Willys 77 Coupe
This very rare car joined us for recommissioning as it has been off the road for many years.
The car was produced by the Willys Overland company in 1933. It was the cheapest new car available during that period costing $500. Although many cars were made, the company suffered financially for the whole pre-war period. During the war, it was commandeered to produce the very famous Willys Jeep.
This example had been lovingly restored by our customer’s father in South Africa many years ago. The Customer has only recently imported it to the UK and chose Fostering Classics to recommission the car based on recommendations from his local classic car club!
The engine valve-train was seized and the fuel system was contaminated and full of debris. After many hours of work and a carburettor rebuild using an ultra-rare kit imported from the USA, the car started and ran quite well.
The rest of the car received a detailed assessment and all items were addressed.
Locating spare parts for this car was extremely challenging and in a few cases, we needed to commission one-off components to be manufactured by our suppliers.
The car is back with its owner now and we miss having such a wonderful car in the workshop!
