The Grand Opening BBQ – A Day of Cars, Community, and Sunshine (Mostly!)
9th June 2025
On Saturday 7th June, something rather special happened at Fostering Classics.
We officially opened the doors to our new workshop, and what better way to mark the occasion than with a proper barbecue, some great company, and an absolutely cracking selection of cars.
From the moment the first guests arrived, we could tell it was going to be a memorable day. Friends, family, customers, and classic enthusiasts from near and far came through the gates in force, and the turnout was nothing short of fantastic. It was a true celebration of everything we love about this community – the passion, the stories, and of course, the motors.
Our yard and surrounding area quickly filled with a brilliant mix of vehicles. There was a real cross-section on display, giving everyone a chance to take a trip through time. From the elegant curves of a 1948 MG TC – the oldest car of the day – to the clean lines of some striking modern performance cars, the gathering offered a snapshot of motoring through the ages.
One car in particular stopped everyone in their tracks – a stunning Lamborghini Miura. Widely regarded as the world’s first true supercar, it was a rare privilege to see one up close. With its bright green paintwork and unmistakable silhouette, the Miura was not only the most valuable vehicle on display, but arguably the most iconic. It added a real sense of occasion to the day and had people of all ages lining up to take a closer look.
It was not just about the showstoppers. Amongst the crowd were machines that told personal stories, cherished projects, ongoing restorations, and cars that had been with their owners for decades. Whether it was a lovingly restored Jaguar Mk2, a bright yellow Triumph Stag, a growling TVR Griffith, or a sharp little Alpine A110, each vehicle was a reflection of the passion that runs deep in this world.
One of the highlights was seeing guests not only walk around the cars, but also sitting in them, chatting about the details, and in many cases, giving them a little rev. It was interactive in the best possible way, people genuinely getting involved, asking questions, and enjoying every aspect of what these vehicles represent. For younger visitors, it was a chance to experience cars they had only ever seen in books or on screens. For the older hands, it was a chance to reconnect with some old favourites.
As the grill fired up, the aroma of hot dogs and burgers filled the air. With drinks flowing and conversation buzzing, it quickly became more than just a car event. From seasoned collectors to curious kids, there was something for everyone.
Of course, we cannot talk about the day without mentioning the weather. British summer can be unpredictable at best, and while reports showed rain falling all around us, our little corner stayed mostly dry. Just a few drops fell during the afternoon, but otherwise the skies held off, as if giving us a little nod of approval. Some might say divine intervention and we are not arguing with that.
Inside the workshop, visitors were welcomed into the heart of what we do. Several projects were on display, showing the different stages of restoration that go on behind the scenes at Fostering Classics. It was a proud moment to show the space in full swing: clean, organised, and ready for the next chapter. For us, it was more than just the opening of a building. It marked a new stage in our journey, a continuation of the open and transparent approach we have always taken with our work.
Throughout the day, we were blown away by the support, the kindness, and the sheer enthusiasm of everyone who came. It reaffirmed why we do what we do – not just for the love of the cars, but for the people behind them. Car culture, at its best, brings together generations. It bridges age, background, and experience. And on this day, it did just that.
To everyone who came along, thank you. Whether you brought a car, brought a friend, or just brought a smile, your presence made the event what it was. We are already looking forward to the next one.
In the meantime, the kettle is always on. The doors to the new workshop are well and truly open, and we are excited to keep sharing what we are working on. If you have not had a chance to visit yet, do stop by, whether you want to talk restoration, take a look around, or just enjoy a cuppa surrounded by proper cars.
Here is to a brilliant day – and many more to come.
